What is FTTP?

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) is an ultra-fast broadband connection. The service is delivered over a single fibre-optic cable that runs from the telephone exchange straight to your door; bypassing the roadside cabinet. Fibre-optic lines use a thin strand of glass that transmit light to carry an impressive amount of data. It is this data that delivers such high-speed internet, video and telephone services.

You can enjoy very high speeds of up to 1GBbps, which makes FTTP the perfect solution for businesses that are increasingly reliant on bandwidth for use with cloud solutions.

Why choose Fibre to the Premises?

ULTRA FAST

With fibre connected straight to your building, FTTP is always on . This means impressive speeds of up to 1Gbps and your team working more effectively than ever before.

RESILIENT

FTTP is powerful enough to take care of all of your business’ communication and IT requirements, ensuring that your team can work productively in any situation.

RELIABLE

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get FTTP in my area?

Openreach are continuing to carry out widespread work to get the UK full-fibre ready, but unfortunately, FTTP is not yet within reach for everyone. Register your interest today and we can check what services are available in your area. If you are interested in FTTP but it’s not yet available, we can keep checking for you and notify you when it is.

What is FTTPoD and is it the same as FTTP?

FTTPoD (Fibre to the Premises on Demand) is an exclusively BT owned product which is not the same as FTTP.

FTTPoD is a bespoke service that can result in expensive installation charges. However, if FTTP is available in your area, you will only pay a standard one-off fee for connection which is usually around £90.

Is FTTP the same as Leased Line?

FTTP is often confused with Leased Line – these are two different technologies, each using a single fibre cable to deliver bandwidth. FTTP is a form of broadband, whereas Leased Line is a form of Ethernet. FTTP provides ultrafast speeds, but bandwidth is not dedicated or supported by any SLA (Service Level Agreement). Ethernet Leased-Lines offer SLA’s with guaranteed fix times and symmetrical, uncontended bandwidth.

What are the upload and download speeds?

FTTP comes in various packages that determine the upload and download speeds you can enjoy. Packages start at 40mbs download and 10mbs upload for more budget-friendly options, up to an impressive 1GB download and 220Mbs upload at the higher end of the scale. Our most popular packages have upload/download speeds of 80:20, 160:30, and 330:50.

How does FTTP terminate?

Openreach will install a modem in your property, where the fibre-optic cable will terminate. This modem is called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal) and this where you would plug in your FTTP router.

What kind of router do I need for FTTP?

Any compatible router will be fine to use for your FTTP line. We can advise you and provide you with suitable options on router hardware.

Does FTTP come with static IPs?

Yes, a single static IP comes with FTTP, free of charge. If you require additional IP addresses then these can easily be provided at a small additional monthly fee.

How long does it take to provide an FTTP connection?

Generally, it takes 35 working days to install an FTTP connection. FTTP is subject to survey, which means that an assessment will be made by Openreach on the work that will be needed to get you up and running. The survey will determine the length of time FTTP will take to provide, which can be as quick as 7 days, but sometimes additional work will mean longer lead times.
