Powerful processing

A cloud-ready connection that will have your team working seamlessly.

How does FTTP work

What is FTTP?

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) is an ultra-fast broadband connection. You can enjoy ultrafast speeds of up to 1GBbps, which makes FTTP the perfect solution for businesses increasingly reliant on bandwidth for use with cloud solutions.

How does it work?

The service is delivered over a single fibre-optic cable that runs from the telephone exchange straight to your door. It bypasses the roadside cabinet to give you full-fibre connectivity. Fibre-optic cables can deliver impressive amounts of data very fast. That’s why FTTP can provide ultrafast service that will see your team whizz around the internet.

What FTTP can bring to your business

Ultra-fast internet

With fibre straight to your building, Fibre to the Premises is an always-on, always fast connection. Your team will work more effectively than ever on impressive speeds up to 1Gbps.

Built-in reliability

You can rely on FTTP to keep your business connected. Fibre-optic cables are more powerful and more resilient than their copper counterparts. That means fewer dips in your connection and far less downtime for your business.

Powerful processing

Fibre to the Premises is powerful enough to take care of all your business communication and IT requirements. It is a cloud-ready connection that will have your team working seamlessly.

Futureproof your internet

FTTP technology will be around for a long time. As a full-fibre connection, it can also handle many internet users simultaneously. This means you won’t have to update your internet as your business grows.

FTTP FAQs

Can I get FTTP in my area?

Openreach continues to carry out widespread work to get the UK full-fibre ready. But, FTTP is not within reach for everyone. Register your interest today, and we can check what services are available in your area. If you are interested but it’s not available, we will keep checking and notify you when it is.

How long will it take to install?

Generally, it takes 35 working days to install an FTTP connection. It is subject to survey, which means that an assessment will be made by Openreach on the work needed to get you up and running. The survey will determine the length of time it takes to provide FTTP. This can be as quick as 7 days, but sometimes additional work will mean longer lead times.

Does FTTP come with static IPs?

Yes. You’ll get a single static IP, free of charge. If you require additional IP addresses, these can be provided for a small additional monthly fee.

What is FTTP on Demand and is it the same as FTTP?

FTTPoD (Fibre to the Premises on Demand) is an exclusively BT owned product. It is not the same as FTTP. FTTPoD is a bespoke service that can result in expensive installation charges. However, if FTTP is available in your area, you will only pay a standard one-off connection fee, usually around £90.

If FTTP is full fibre, isn't it the same as Leased Line?

FTTP is often confused with Leased Line – these are two different technologies, each using a single fibre cable to deliver bandwidth. Fibre to the Premises is a form of broadband, whereas Leased Line is a form of Ethernet. FTTP provides ultrafast speeds, but bandwidth is not dedicated – it is shared with other internet users. Ethernet Leased-Lines offer SLAs with guaranteed fix times and symmetrical, uncontended bandwidth.

“SoConnect provided a cost-effective solution to bring a leased line direct to the office. That solution enabled us to move to a credible MS Teams solution replacing the VOIP service (by others) that was no longer fit for purpose. SoConnect provides effective project management and competitive data services to us. They have a friendly team that is flexible and proactive in its approach to service delivery.”
