SoGEA: broadband with the future in mind

Low-cost business broadband that works without a landline.

SoGEA gets your business ahead of the broadband curve

SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. It is a product developed for the future of internet connectivity. Until now, to deliver broadband to home and office premises, you needed to have a conventional phone line installed. However, SoGEA broadband doesn’t run over a phone line. Instead, it uses the same broadband network without the phone line element.

SoGEA is a cost-effective solution that delivers the same performance as FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet). It future-proofs your internet connection ahead of the landline network switch off in 2025.

FTTC for the future

Upgrade before the analogue switch off.

What is SoGEA?

In 2017, BT Openreach announced that their entire traditional copper phone line network would cease by December 2025. This is a significant migration to the newer, more efficient fibre broadband network. SoGEA was developed to meet the challenge of delivering broadband without using the landline element.

How does it work?

SoGEA works by using the current FTTC infrastructure. It takes the data along fibre-optic cables from the internet service provider to the roadside cabinet. Then, utilising copper cables, data travels from the cabinet to your premises.

What SoGEA can bring to your business

Quicker installation

SoGEA is quick to install because you don’t need a phone line. You only need to place one order. That means minimal disruption to your business, letting your team get on with the job. For a super-fast route to great internet, choose SoGEA.

Future-proofed

PSTN & ISDN analogue services will be switched off by the end of 2025. Many exchanges are already under notice to cease as the UK prepares for full fibre. SoGEA means you can have broadband without the PSTN network, so future-proofs your connectivity.

Cost savings

You pay for an internet connection plus line rental with standard business broadband. But with SoGEA, you won’t need line rental. That means lower monthly costs for your business. You’ll protect your bottom line while upgrading your broadband connection.

Great for homeworkers

Many UK businesses are shifting towards a hybrid workforce. That’s why having great connectivity for your home workers is essential. SoGEA is quick to install, easier to manage and works well with VoIP phone systems and cloud solutions like Microsoft 365.

SoGEA broadband FAQs

Can I keep my current number?

Yes, you will need to tell us that you would like to keep your phone number and take out a VoIP phone line to run in parallel with your SoGEA connection. We will port your existing number to your new service.

Will call quality be worse than landline when running over the internet?

Broadband speeds are now fast enough to negate call quality problems. There will also be less interference when the PSTN/ISDN circuits are switched off, effectively removing landline call traffic on the lines. Hundreds of thousands of UK businesses rely solely on VoIP services for all their voice calls right now.

Do I have to change now? What will happen if I wait until 2025?

The migration of PSTN and ISDN networks has already started. Several regional ‘stop sell dates’ (the dates after which providers will no longer be able to obtain the supply of analogue services) began in June 2021, with the final national ‘stop sell’ date in September 2023. Waiting until the very last minute might mean disruption for your business, so we recommend you look to future proof your voice and connectivity solutions now.

We moved our voice and data services for four remote wind farms and operations base from a well known UK supplier to SoConnect. Commercial and technical support is a breath of fresh air compared to our previous experience, and prices remain competitive. Thank you, SoConnect!
